Easy Knitted Cowl Pattern

Easy Two Hour Cowl
In keeping with my focus on fast and easy projects, I came up with a quick knit cowl pattern that can be worked on straight needles. My total knitting time from start to finish for this project was a little over an hour and a half. Chunky yarn and large needles=speedy project. Yay!
I've already made several versions of this free knit cowl pattern as gifts and the recipients loved them.
You'll need one ball (104 yds/ 95 m, 5oz./140 g) super bulky (6) yarn (I used Lionbrand Homespun for the project in the photo)
Size 13 straight needles
Knitted Cowl
Cast 52 stitches on to a size 13 needle
Work in K2 P2 rib for 5 rows
Pattern row 1--Knit across
Row 2--Purl across
Row 3--K2tog, yo across to the last 2 stitches, K2
Row 4--Purl
Repeat 4 pattern rows until knitted cowl measures 11 inches from cast on edge, ending with row 4.
Next row--K2 P2 across, repeat this row 4 more times.
Bind off, fold knitted cowl in half, lining up the two short sides so that it's inside out.
Sew the two short sides together.
Tie off ends and you're done!

I'm a fairly new knitter and not sure what it means when you say "YO across to the last 2 stitches"....
thanks
Did you put ribbing at the smaller end as well?

Is the pattern supposed to have 52 stitches in the end? Apparently a stitch is lost every 3rd row of the pattern so that wben you get to the 3rd row again you cannot knit two last stitches because there is ohly one left. Are you supposed to just knit the one and continue?
