Easy Button Scarf Pattern

Easy Button Scarf
This is a very simple knitted scarf pattern that can be worked up quickly for a last minute gift. It's also very versatile in that you can adjust the length, number of buttons or placement of buttons in order to change the drape and over all appearance of the scarf. I made this one in a little over an hour with some leftover scrap yarn and a random button I found at the bottom of my button jar (otherwise the color selections may have been a bit different.)
Easy Button Scarf Pattern
You will need a set of size 15 knitting needles, one skein of super bulky yarn (for the scarf pictured here, I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick And Quick), a tapestry needle, one large button.
Cast on 18 stitches
Row 1) K1, slip 1 purlwise, (k2, slip1purlwise) 5 times, then k the last stitch
Row 2) Right side-- K2, (p2,k1) 5 times, then k the last stitch
Repeat these two rows until the scarf measures 24 inches from cast on edge. Bind off in the pattern. Weave in ends.
Sew button onto the right side of the scarf, about 51/2 inches in from either cast on edge, in the middle.

I am new to knitting, and I am having a little trouble reading this pattern. Row 2 says right side, does that mean that row one is always the wrong side?
What is the trick to not makig the scarf roll in on itself? I've tried different yarns in different thicknesses and they all seem to roll.
Thanks, i will give it a try!
Does the button squeeze through any knit hole. I've been looking for a particular pattern & this one is closest to what I was looking for, but on another pattern it made a button hole. This pattern does not specify a button hole.
Hi Cari. There is no button hole. I usually pull the button through close to the corner but other people have different preferences so it keeps it versatile. Thanks!

This is so cute, and I can handle making one for ME. Perfect pattern since I do my own spinning, and beginning spinners like me create make bulky wool before they know better. Voted up and buttons pushed across the board. AWESOME for being a timely gift suggestion.
